His approach to project design applies creative and sustainable strategies that endeavor to realize a project’s full potential. As Senior Landscape Architect at The Lightfoot Planning Group in Carlsbad, CA, Phil oversees staff resources that support a variety of projects in both private and public sectors. He is an advocate for Low Impact Design and High-Performance Landscapes. His varied experience in shepherding projects from concept through construction includes landscape and site design of K–12 and community college campuses, sports fields, municipal streetscapes and residential communities.

Phil is past president of The American Society of Landscape Architects, ASLA San Diego chapter. His leadership of the executive board provided member support to over 200 San Diego landscape architects and advocated for issues at the local, state and federal levels.

Phil is a professional landscape architect and has been licensed to practice landscape architecture in the state since 1990. He is a graduate of the University of California, Davis with a degree in landscape architecture.

Phil has been selected to fill the Landscape Architect position on the DSA Public School Construction Collaborative. Phil views his role on the PSCC as instrumental in formulating solid school site design policy by providing industry insights on issues such as sustainable school yard design, water and irrigation efficiency, ‘green’ storm water management and climate positive design.
